The Indian ceramic
industry at large, in modernizing its technology and to develop new
products and processes in the emerging fields of advanced ceramics. The
immediate objectives then set were:

Conduct applied research on various aspects of ceramic materials
·
Upgrade technology from laboratory to pilot plant scale prior to
commercial production
·
Provide consultancy and engineering services
·
Establish facilities for characterization and testing of ceramic
materials.
·
Train
scientists and engineers
·
Disseminate knowledge and experience among Indian industries.
CTI has continued
its activities in the same tempo, built up in the project stage, even
after dissociation from UNIDO/UNDP. However in 1997, with a view to
adapt to the changing circumstances, its objectives were slightly
modified. They are as follows:
