Ceramic Technological Institute (CTI) , the premier research and development center of BHEL is located in the technological capital of Bangalore. The institute is housed inside the campus of BHEL (EPD) which is adjacent to the renowned institutions of Indian Institute of Science, Central Power Research Institute. BHEL established CTI in 1989 with UNDP assistance. 
 
 
The objectives of CTI are to focus on the research and development in science and engineering of ceramics and allied fields. CTI emphasizes research in the field of industrial, technical, environmental, special ceramics and composites. In recent years, the institute has been focusing on nano-ceramics, nano-composites, porous ceramics, raw materials, ceramic membranes and green technologies, like, microwave processing with an objective to develop new applications in the fields. Over the years, the institute has been collaborating with many national and international institutes in identified areas. CTI forms the center for enhancement and dissemination of knowledge in the field of its activities. It provides assistance in upgrading the technology and developing new processes and products and also extends technical training and project work to graduate/postgraduate students.
